The Image Theatre in Prague offers an ideal introduction to black light theatre.
This typically Czech art form is a world of illusory creations and hidden secrets, the story told through a mix of mime, modern dance, ballet, animated film, actors and/or puppets.
The show takes the visitor on a path from total darkness to vivid lights and colours in the extreme. The times of intense darkness are full of fantasy. Poetic pictures approach from the mysterious. The actors are invisible. Then suddenly they appear, bright as day and alarmingly close.
Dance forms a major part of every black light theatre performance. Nimble dancers arouse the emotions, express the unspoken and appear to defy the laws of physics as they twist and turn in the air.
Music brings the inanimate to life, transforms tragedy to comedy, makes the unbelievable a reality.
In short, prepare your senses for a journey, an exploration. Inside you may find something you never knew existed!
Please note that strong lighting effects and limited strobe lighting form part of the performances.
In black light theatre the story is recounted visually, with little or no spoken words. This makes the shows ideal for an international audience, of both adults and children.
The Image Theatre is located one minute walk from the Old Town Square.

The All Colours Theatre is one of the original black light theatres in Prague, and has represented Czech culture at over 50 international theatre festivals.
Let yourself be absorbed by the stories brought to life by the unique resources of the black light theatre: the masterful use of visual effects, the tricks of contrast between light and dark, the creative performances of the actors and dancers, all set to an original music score.
Two shows are currently staged at the All Colours Theatre, both are amongst the most popular black light theatre productions in Prague: Faust and the Colour Dreams of Dr. Frankenstein.
With Faust, allow yourself to be drawn into a timeless tale of man's quest for knowledge, power and immortality, for which he ultimately pays a high price
In the Colour Dreams of Dr. Frankenstein, the original tale of creating an artificial human is cleverly extended to include other fictional characters from the 19th century, like Sherlock Holmes, Dracula and the Invisible Man, as the audience is transported on a tour through Europe.
As part of your visit and included in your ticket, you will be invited to look round The Gallery on the first floor, to discover some of the techniques employed in the show - you may be surprised!
